Troika ‘vetoes’ the Humanitarian Crisis Law

In a text said to have been sent to the Greek authorities, the European Commission Representative Mr. Costello characterizes the bills concerning the humanitarian crisis and the adjustment of delinquent debts to the State in 100 installments as unilateral actions taken fragmentarily. Mr. Costello basically ‘vetoes’ the bills in question by claiming that they are not in accordance with the agreement of February 20 between Greece and the Eurogroup, while simultaneously maintains that they have not been incorporated to a more general context of reforms and that there has been no briefing of the country’s lenders concerning the government’s intentions.

On the other hand, in his today’s speech in the Parliament, Greek Prime Minister Alexis stated:

“The nerve of those that characterize the humanitarian crisis bill as unilateral action and demand that it ‘freezes’, so that the Greek households freeze, embarrasses Europe… Their threats don’t scare us, a wall of dignity is raised… What kind of Europe is that and whom does it represent? If they do this to scare us, they don’t scare or discourage us. We have been receiving the same threats for 50 days now.”

He continued by saying that the government is going to react to such a function of Europe, not just “to defend the interests of Greece, but to defend the character of Europe”, and he added that he will raise the issue before all institutions of the European Union.

Europe is not property of the technocrats, he characteristically said and added: “the elected with the elected and the technocrats with the technocrats”.
