Athens Bar Association Demands Minister of Justice Intervention

The Athens Bar Association demands the intervention of the Minister of Justice Nikos Paraskevopoulos via a letter of urgency, in which it denounces the administrations of the Magistrate Courts of Attiki, which arbitrarily have not in many cases observed the Ministry of Justice circular to the effect that they must suspend operations for two working days before and after the parliamentary elections.

As a result, the Magistrate Courts carried out sessions and abated cases not on grounds of elections – as they should have – but of absence of parties! According to the Athens Bar Association, on the one hand the attorneys at law appear to be absent before their principals, on the other hand the parties and lawyers are charged for the legal expenses of the adjournment.

The Athens Bar Associations demands that the Minister immediately send a circular to the administrations of the country’s courts, where the impropriety in question is emphatically highlighted and the opportunity is given to parties and attorneys at law to revive charge free all of the cases that had been abated during the time period in question.
