According to the president of the Bar association of Volos, L. Gaitanis, the poverty line corresponds to 233 euro per month, i.e. 2,796 per year. He later added: 
“It is evident that 33% of our members, who are actually unemployed or underemployed, do not even earn those 2,796 euro of the poverty line per year. However, there is a percentage of 12% of Volos’ lawyers who entered six to ten 10 court appearances. The poverty line corresponds to 432 euro per month or 5,184 euro per year. I consider it very likely that an attorney cannot exceed the poverty line of 5,184 euro with only six to ten court appearances.”   

Mr. Gaitanis has mentioned the unbearable tax of 26% for attorneys on their first euro, and the fact that the state makes the lawyers with no income pay 650 euro for the business tax as well. He welcomed the government’s announcement of the tax-free amount of 12,000 euro as the first step towards a positive direction and added: “But if the government does not wish the death of a lawyer, it should not allow the formation of monopolizing situations. It should not allow the big law firms take over all bank cases, which are taken from hundreds of their lawyers-associates. We won’t put up with the big shot of Athens taking advantage of the new provincial lawyers who would run errands for 10 and 20 euro.”
